‘The theme found me’. This is how Debbie Bonello describes the subject matter of this exhibition.

 

This collection features anonymous crowds, lonesome individuals sharing a common space.

 

An idea originating in 2016, has been slowly honed into what is now ‘Gatherings’, a theme which in itself occupies a new identity with the onset of the pandemic.  Bonello considers the works of a different nature than her figurative works or

paradigmatic landscapes. These canvases are playful and imaginative, another steppingstone in her artistic growth.

 

Bold brushwork takes over, and the viewer is invited to ponder on these universal forms and settings in total freedom of interpretation.

 

The collection depicted throughout the pandemic, in isolation at the artist studio in Balzan, is introspective, inviting us to revisit being alone, offering a fraction of solace for missed social gatherings.
