Born in 1983, Dominique Ciancio is a Maltese painter with a background in restoration, theatre scenography and film. He graduated in History of Art and Philosophy from the University of Malta in 2004 and completed a four-year diploma in Fine Arts at the Malta School of Art. In 2005 he joined the Art Department at Universal Studios Inc., contributing to productions under renowned directors, including Steven Spielberg. At the age of twenty-six, while residing in Oslo, Norway, Ciancio pursued painting as a full-time practice. His visual language reflects his multidisciplinary background, resulting in methods that integrate a range of techniques. He approaches each work as a ‘handmade image’, a term he uses to describe his meticulous, process-driven approach.

Ciancio’s exhibitions include WIRE (Oslo, Norway, 2008), The Curious (Cittadella, Gozo, 2010), Silent Pulses (Palazzo Ferreria, Malta, 2011), Malerier (Rjukan, Norway, 2013), and UNPACK – A Visio-Phonic Experience (Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Malta, 2014). He also created murals for Malta’s Esplora Science Centre (2015) and collaborated on AJITP in The Hague, Netherlands (2016). Later projects include TATOM (Gozo, 2019) and Return Island (Palazzo De La Salle, Malta, 2021).
