Magma I by Victor Agius
by Victor Agius
Earth, Terra Rossa, Pigments, Mixed Media on board
63cm x 63cm
The reddish ochre colour that dominates most of Agius’s works bear the traces of actual ‘terrarossa’ (red earth from Italian) which the artist ritually collects from excavations in building sites across Gozo and reappropriates them in his statements. Red ochre was used in burial rituals in prehistoric Malta and was even used as interior decorations inside temples and hypogea.
