FADING SOCIAL DISTANCING

The exhibition is the outcome of the online contemporary art project by Pawlu Mizzi which was held via Facebook, titled ‘The (Facebook) Portrait Project II’ – a group that was accessible to anyone across the globe to join.

By enlisting in the mentioned group, people were taking part in a social exercise of portraiture creation as a positive metaphor towards the complete fading out of the distancing caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
A number of ‘collective portraits’ were created by Mizzi. Each collective portrait is made up of a group of ten consecutive persons who joined the group, by using their Facebook profile pictures. Each participant was tagged and invited to share his/her thoughts and reactions about social distancing and the urge for the human touch.

This project is a development upon a similar project called ‘(Facebook) Portrait Project’ held in 2013 as part of Pawlu's research for a Masters in Fine Arts Digital Media at the University of Malta.
