The solo exhibition 'ante’ by Rupert Cefai, is a collection of works presented together as a critique of aspects of contemporary society - deriving out of various strata of our community, dealing with subjects such as environmental degradation, power and its abuse, truths and beliefs.

 

The artist taps back on his past as an editorial cartoonist, a side which he is now amalgamating to his classical figurative art.

 

The title 'ante' is suggestive of an imminent 'gambled stake', which can be perceived both in the various themes and scenarios that the artist chose to portray and also in his 'return' to the editorial cartoon approach.
