Hui Sun (b. 1985, Datong City, Shanxi Province, China) studied at Yunnan Art University, where he obtained a Master’s degree (2009–2012). His graduation work, History Wheel I, was acquired by the Art Museum of Yunnan Art University.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions in China and Malta, receiving recognition including third prize at the Yunnan Young Artists Exhibition (2012) and third prize at the Yunnan Oil Painting Society Art Exhibition (2020).

Sun’s practice weaves disparate themes into a single pictorial plane, creating visual tensions that reflect social and interpersonal dynamics. Engaging with the fragmented nature of contemporary urban life, his work draws from both historical and contemporary references, forming spaces that oscillate between the real and the imagined.

From 2012 to 2021, he worked as an art teacher at Yunnan Art University. He currently resides in Malta, where he shares a studio with his wife, who is also an artist. He is a member of the Malta Society of Arts. In 2024, he began working on a new series titled Absurdity and Seriousness.
