DARRYL SCHEMBRI
Darryl Schembri (b. 1989) has been passionate about art from a very young age, with some of his earliest memories — around the age of four — centered on drawing. After graduating from MCAST with a background in media, he spent several years working in the media industry.
At 22, Schembri got his first tattoo, sparking a profound interest in the art form. Over the past decade, he has established himself as a tattoo artist. Recently, after facing personal hardships, Schembri turned to painting as a refuge, using art as a means of mental recovery. This creative outlet became a lifeline, inspiring him to experiment intensively day and night.
Schembri believes that innovation is essential to his artistic identity. He feels it’s important for an artist not to settle but to challenge existing boundaries, whether in minimal, monochromatic work or by blending contrasting textures like gloss and matte or smooth and rough surfaces. Currently, he is also exploring ways to extend his artwork into the surrounding space, making it an integral part of the composition and concept.
