Karen Caruana
Karen Caruana, born in Malta, has been studying Fine Art painting since 2001. Primarily a painter, her creative process involves photography, photo manipulation, and sketching, and she has recently begun experimenting with mixed media.
Her work is driven by a fascination with color, form, facial expressions, and the dynamics of captured movement. It is a continuous exploration of self-growth and personal expression, often inspired by life events and a deep interest in folk customs, popular culture, and lowbrow art. Caruana also draws influence from masters such as Odd Nerdrum, Francis Bacon, and Rembrandt, whose techniques and styles fuel her artistic evolution.
Caruana has participated in numerous collective exhibitions, and in 2018, she held her debut solo exhibition, Vernacular, at the Malta Society of Arts. In addition to her visual art, she has contributed illustrations to various publications.
