KATEL DELIA

Katel Delia, born in 1975 in Brittany, France, is deeply attached to her Maltese origins and has been living and working between Malta and Paris since 2016.  In 1999 she completed her DNSEP degree at the Beaux-Arts de Rennes. Her diploma project explores “The lack of landmarks in water” and consists of large format digital montages. In 2000, she plunged into the internet bubble as artistic director and then functional project manager. In 2015, she finally decided to show her artistic projects. She creates installations combining photography, sculpture, and writing. Her work focuses on investigating our perception of the space and marine environment. She is also exploring the concept of how traces of the past reflect into the present.

In 2015, she was selected, as one of the participating artists in The Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale, by the artistic director Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci. Her first solo exhibition was « Familja migrAzzjoni » I was born there, but I live here… held in 2017 at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta. The project was endorsed by Spazju Kreattiv, the French Embassy in Malta and other private entities.

In 2018, she was invited by RIMA & the Valletta 2018 Foundation, to participate in the international collective exhibition To be [defined] held at Spazju Kreattiv, in Valletta. She also participated in the project Amuse – Perception I (2018) and Perception II Postscript (2019) held at the Malta Society of Arts, in Valletta.

In Paris, she exhibited at La Maison des Métallos (2016) with the exhibition Passeport(e) and she is also actively involved in the Association of Parisian Artists Network.

In 2020, she participated in the Mois de la photo de Grenoble, in the Festival Photo Phemina at Fontainebleau, at the festival Pierrevert Nuit Photographiques, and at Rencontres Photographiques Face à La Mer, in Tangier.

She participated in the Masterclass of photography by FLORE and Sylvie Hugues (The eye and the spirit) and in the Masterclass by Quentin Bertoux and by Frank Ferville (Agence VU’).

In 2021 she was awarded the 10th CAP Prize, Contemporary African Photography Prize, for a photography series. Her work was also featured in various photo festivals in France and in Malta. She had another solo exhibition at Spazju Kreattiv “Malta – Tunis – Marseille”.
